National Guard Relief Act introduced in U.S. House of Representatives

May 18, 2026 | Legislative

The National Guard Relief Act was introduced by Congressman Brad Finstad (MN-01) and Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) in a step toward designating the National Guard Relief Foundation (NGRF) as an official military welfare society.

As members of the House Armed Services Committee, Rep. Finstad and Rep. Sorensen saw the need to support National Guard service members needing assistance due to natural disasters, financial hardships, emergencies, and the very situations to which service members themselves respond.

This legislation will bridge a crucial gap and ensure that the National Guard has the same benefits as their active-duty counterparts, regardless of the mission. If passed, NGRF will be codified under Title 10 alongside Army Emergency Relief, Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, Air Force Aid Society, and Coast Guard Mutual Assistance.

EANGUS would like to thank Rep. Finstad for championing this bill and standing with the National Guard community.
